Store for Science

What is AMOLF?
AMOLF is one of the research institutes of the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM), part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

AMOLF performs pioneering fundamental research in the fields of the Physics of Biomolecular Systems and Nanophotonics, two topics with a great potential for technological innovation. About 150 researchers work at AMOLF, spread over 16 research groups. The institute is situated in the Amsterdam Science Park.

AMOLF believes strongly in the importance of sharing knowledge with industry and society. Many of its research projects are carried out in cooperation with larger industrial players. Another form of knowledge transfer is realized by the steady flow of highly skilled researchers and technicians from AMOLF to industry. The institute is constantly on the look-out for new ways of sharing knowledge; Store for Science is the latest example of this.

The idea behind Store for Science
The ‘Store for Science’ concept grew out of the observation that most small and medium enterprises often cannot afford to finance a doctoral research project, which – at least in the Netherlands – is one of the main ways of bringing about cooperation between academic institutes and industry in the field of research. Store for Science has been developed with this need in mind. Its aim is to make scientific knowledge and equipment as accessible as possible to SME companies, to create contacts between entrepreneurs and scientists and thus to contribute to innovation in the business world.

  • Store for Science offers entrepreneurs easy access to all the knowledge and expertise available at AMOLF.
  • It gives a handy overview of all the research equipment at AMOLF that can be used to meet the needs of business clients.
  • It offers clients the possibility of a face-to-face meeting with scientists to discuss their research problems.

The target group
Store for Science is aimed at small and medium enterprises in the Netherlands and abroad.
